Default 98 crank and mains on 01 ls1 block??

I bought a longblock ls1 disassembled for 500 bucks and the guy i bought it from didnt have all the main caps so he bought 5 new ones and it came with those so I took it to the machine shop to get it machined and have the shortblock built and they said they have to line bore the 5 new mains to fit the 01 crank and it was gonna be $1,000 and I dont have that much right now. My questoin is Will my crank and mains from my 98 ls1 fit on that 01 block without it havin to get line bored and will there be any issues because one of the guys that work there said I may have vibration issues but i dont see why I would, but if i wont and I can use my other crank and mains then Id save my self about 600 bucks

Anytime you use different main caps than the ones that were originally with the block, you HAVE TO line bore/ hone the mains. They are done at the factory to match the block casting.

Check with another machine shop though. Im having mine done for ~$100

With new main caps, you have to have the block line bored and line honed. With used caps, sometimes you can get away with just honing. If not, you will have main bearing issues. Trust what your machine shop says on this one.

Any decent machine shop should be able to do it. Just grab the phonebook and call around. There may be a big shop near you, where are you?
