Default What is this in my 5.3 crank?

I'm getting my 5.3 that came from an early 2007 Chevy truck (classic body style) ready to go in my 1970 Chevelle. I'm using an Advance Adapters TH-350 adapter flexplate. This kit includes a bushing that installs in the crankshaft to support the TH-350 torque converter. My crankshaft has an unusual insert in the rear flange that doesn't appear to be any type of thrust bearing I have ever seen. I have asked some knowledgeable local people who have worked on a lot of LSx stuff, and they have never seen anything like it.

Can anyone identify this part. I have tried to use a MAC tools slide-hammer type of pilot bearing remover and this piece won't budge, and I don't want to get too crazy with the slide hammer as I don't want to hurt my thrust bearing.

Any suggestions on what this is and how to remove it would be very much appreciated!

I forgot to mention this engine came from Spalding Auto Parts, and is bone stock. So this part is a factory installed piece. That's what makes it odd.

Best way to get it outmay be to use some heat, but don't know if I would do it myself.
I'd take it to a machine shop and let them pull it out
