Default Lifter Question

Anyone ever had a lifter go bad? Are there any upgrades or just OEM? I have a single distinguished tick that can be heard across the street, and can't see a problem in the engine after tear down.

Comp Cams makes a factory replacement and the Pro Magnum comp R lifters
