help please! trying to measure pushrod length
help please! trying to measure pushrod length I'm trying to measure for push rod length. (don't have a adjustable pushrod) i do have a indicator on a stand. i have
6.0l
stock rockers
ls7 lifters
stock 317 heads
stock 7.4 pushrods
epp blower cam
stock 6.0l gm gaskets .051 compressed thickness
i put the heads on with out gaskets and snugged up the head bolts. put the rockers on and spun the push rod until it snugged up when tightening the mounting bolt. zero'd out indicator and tightened bolt to 22ft lbs about 1 3/4 turns. this came out to about .125 travel. add the .051 gasket leaves .074 preload. does this sound about right? if i ordered hardened 7.4" pushrods would this work?

so if i did this right if i get a 7.4 push rod i will be at .074 preload. or is i get a 7.375 push rod ill be at . 049 preload.

Why spend all kinds of money on parts and all kinds of time installing them, then, instead of buying a $20 length checker and measuring, you come on here and trust that total strangers will guess correctly as to what length PR you need? Sorry to be an ***...but I couldn't resist.
I'm not trying to guess. I'm trying to measure, Ive been told it could be done this way. with a indicator, i just wanted to make sure that i was doing the steps correctly. I'm not try to cheap out on it just thought there was another way of doing it. I'm going to see if i can find an adjustable push rod local tomorrow.
