Default LS1 vs LQ9

H/C/I build. Which will be faster in general?

LQ9 would have LS heads obviosuly, so which would be faster? I know the LS1 is lighter, but would the LQ9 make that much more power, or no?

Thanks.

The LQ9 obviously has a couple advantages, mainly being more displacement and strength. An iron block is usually very cheap when starting from scratch, plus its added strength is often a desired quality for those planning boost or spray.

The added weight is one of its downfalls, but those 70lbs easily be compensated for elsewhere if desired (spare tire/insulation, carpet, passenger/rear seats, etc).

Okay, well with that said, how do I know the motor that is in the car, is the one the guy says it is? I have heard there are a few different types of LQ9's, how do I know which is which? Thanks.

If its was built before it was put in you will not know for sure. Does the owner have a build sheet showing what was done? Another way to see if it is worth it is to take it to the track and see for yourself what it does.
