Default Mix and Match build question...

What if I wanted to build a budget engine just to throw in a non-lsx vehicle and I have a 6.0 iron block, a 4.8 crank, 5.7 rods and pistons, 5.3 heads, and everything else to acompany it like a cam, matching valvesprings, pushrods, fast 90/90, etc. Would this work? What do you guys think? It'd be experimental and somewhat cheap...comments, info, has this been done before?

That would be like a destroked motor but it would work with the right pistons! Make some high revving horsepower thats for sure.

Don't do it. If you want a 328ci LSx, go buy a 5.3L and don't waste a perfectly good 6.0L block that could actually make some power in more capable hands.

At the very least (re: cheapest), use a stock 3.622" stroke crank and a piston that is actually meant for a 4.00" bore block, like from an LQ9/4 or an LS2. Be careful though, as some rods are press fit and some are bushed, and require the correct corresponding piston. Also, if this clusterf$%k of parts comes from different engines, have a machine shop balance the crank.

lol i just have some stuff laying around the house, want to build a car for the Grassroots Motorsports $2010 challenge...the other stuff would be for later. Don't have to get all pissy about it jk. No but I would like to make a high revving engine one day and thought this could possibly work. And of course it would be from different engines...haha. Don't let the mullet fool you, I got some IQs left.

pistons and rods will be too short for 4.8 crank. You'll need 4.8 rods too.

I think the cheapest solution would be an OEM crank, LS3 pistons, and correlating rods. You'd need to have the block checked, but 376 cubic inches, and the larger bore will help with the heads.
