Default How to store lifters and clean them?

I just bought a set of morels from Thunder racing, but will not be able to put them in my car for a few months. I opened the box up and they have cardboard bits stuck on it and there isn't much lubrication/coating on them.

Can I just leave them in the box for the next few months and be ok? Or should I take them out and coat them with something first?

Also, when I am ready to install them, what can I use to clean off all the cardboard fibers?

Thanks in advance

id say they are okay. you never know, they could have been sitting in that box the way they are for 6 months already.

but since im cautious i would clean them up real good and squirt some oil on them when they are done and leave them in the house or something to keep them out of the elements.

two options depending on how **** you want to be:

1- just coat them in oil and stick them in a ziploc bag
or
2- fill a can with motor oil and leave them submerged (put a top on the can)

the whole idea is to get oil on them then keep them clean/dry/etc so as to prevent dirt/water/etc from messing them up

My solid lifters have been in storage for a couple of years now with no ill effects. I oiled them really well (soaked them) and put them into a "spill proof" food container. Same thing with rods/pistons/pushrods/etc.

I would clean the outside carefully and submerge them in oil. I bought some small plastic containers from Wal Mart for this type of thing. My original LS1 lifters are currently stored this way.

Also, on the Morels, when ready to install rotate the roller a few times while submerged. The bearing is packed with a heat sensitive grease that will run out once the motor is running and it gets hot. This will help that process.

I bought a plastic pitcher (like for lemonade) from the local dollar store. I cleaned my lifters with a light spray of brake cleaner and then submerged them in oil in the pitcher until I got around to installing them in my engine.

I've always submerged mine in oil when storing them
