Default 06 GTO anyone have else have werid engine overheating issues

Is there any issues with the stock engine temp sensor going bad ? Im in the USMC away from my car but my brother was moving it and working on it a little like i asked. temp gauge went little hot idleing in driveway. let it cool for 20 mins drove it 5 miles at 25-35 mph drove fine then drove it 5 more miles 35-45 mph drove fine. pulled in driveway to turn around went 50 yards down road. temp gauge shot straight up to red turn car off. waited 5 mins temp gauge was in the middle and fine temp he pulled it back into driveway and shut it down for today

ideas ?

Car has lot of mods .it Is a procharged 427 warhawk motor. oil looks fine and coolant looks green and fine. But if i semi wiped out a head gaskets would it be random like this ?

Sounds to me like you might have air in your cooling system.
I had simiar symptoms after my cam swap on my 05 GTO.
the sudden spikes on the dash temp guage can be air trapped in the clinder head causing the temp sensor int he drivers side cylinder head to read funny.
GTOs can be tough to get all the air out of the cooling system.
Hope this helps

Shoot the temp sensor with a temp gun and that will tell you if you really have a prob or not...
