Blown ring: stroke or new shortblock?
Right now ive got afr 205s, a fast 90/90, and an azps01 cam (236/236 i think).. What im wondering is, does it make more sense to pull the block, and stroke it (im thinking forged 383) or should i sell the mods and get a longblock (gen4?)
I have to wait until monday to get pricing on machining the block, but it still runs fine, so im assuming scarring will be minimal.
My mechanic says lq9 cause its cheap and will have a bit of displacement on stock, but i dont know how much ill like the added weight, but my friend planted the seed of that 383, and there are some ridiculous sales on longblocks if i wanted to swap to a gen4.
any advice?
one thing a lot of people say is the potential.. do you mean top end power potential due to the strength of the block? because i dont think just a heads/cam/stroker would come close, aluminum or iron... right?
since noticing i havent driven it (much less WOT). Ive worked on FI cars that had enough crankcase pressure that they shot them out, but i think its safe to say you're on the right track. I havent done a leakdown yet because all signs point to the same thing: rings
I will however do one before actually doing either swap
