Default help with cam swap

hey guys i have the cam gear off and was told you can use a 5/16 rod to hold the lifters up. But it just hits the lifters, how do i get the lifters up to push that rod in so it holds the lifters up. I tried to turn the cam but there not that high

You did loosen all the rockers and removed pushrods? If so, the lifters should stay up in the trays once you spin the cam over a few times.

i still have the pushrods in to see if the lifters stay up. All seem to stay but one.

Maybe try pulling up the lifter with a pen magnet. Then the 5/16 rod should go in?

remove the rocker arm from the head spin the cam a couple of times ,insert lifter retain rods.

i take it its ok to use the old lifters with a cam swap? id think you would have replace them with the cam. im looking to do a cam myself and trying to figure what i need.
