*Update*
Yesterday we were able to use a steering wheel puller (thanks vettenuts) and get the timing cover off..to my surprise they were lined up perfectly
-So I went to the machine shop and borrowed a dial indicator (the weird sideways one) and my GM tech buddy Richy was able to determine it was 10* advanced..which I never changed the settings after I bought the shortblock..so the SLP sprockets have multiple keyways to +/- timing..we adjusted the sprockret back 10* per SLP's instructions(after heating it up with a torch for 5-10 mins)..Going to throw in some 7.375 pr's and then turn her over today..update tommorrow...dyno in a few weeks...
-Keep in mind the original owner thought that his 22x/.59x cam and milled 2.08 patriot heads were the reason his valves kissed the pistons..I think the chain was the problem all along...one will never know

Good thing you checked. A friend of mine put the crank gear wrong on his LT1 and tried to start it. Bent/broke every exhaust valve.

I am glad you got it figured out. I am putting some parts on my LS1 and ended up having very little PTV clearance. I was glad I checked.

Yeah I am glad we did too! It go's to show that how mild or wild a setup is..You should always check..

I was also a little confused on why the smaller exhaust valve was hitting first (at all)..but then after having the stroke of the combustion cycle broke down, it made sense..

-I WILL dyno this bish in a few weeks and post up to see what these heads can do with a small cam.
