tirefryins10 claims, if I understood his Mustang thread correctly, to have gotten his Mustang into the high 9s with used stock 5.3 truck block, crank, rods, pistons, pins, rings, bearings and heads. If he NEVER had ANY detonation, then it seems plausible to me. You should shoot him a PM.

I had a 5.3 for 3 years untouched shortblock w/ 100k+ miles on it. (317 heads and bigger cam) It made 640whp on 15psi and a 50 shot of N2O. 93 octane. I finally spun a rod bearing... stock ones apear to be to soft aluminum. But it was reliable for 3 years, and the rest of the inside looks perfect.

I had a really crappy inefficient converter... im sure the engine produced over 700hp.

Id use all stock parts... maybe swap out the bearings.
thats my experience..

The LM7 uses the same rods as an LS1, so you have plenty options for them. Wiseco has pistons for the 3.78 bore with the stock stroke or a stroker setup. You can also bore the 5.3 block as much as 3.905 and use any of the LS1 piston options.

Haha sounds awsome

Maybe it´s worth a try to run it stock. I read somewhere that the ls1 and lm7 has the same crank and rods ? Just some smaller pistons in the lm7?
