Default Got the Trex Cam

Hello all, I just had a few questions. I just purchased a Trex Cam, got all the supporting mods for the engine. I bought longtubes and an Off-road Y pipe, SLP Lid, I just need to order my torque converter and 12 Bolt now. The only thing in my way is figuring out what size converter and gears to get. Would a 3600 stall and 3:73 gears be alright? Only current mods are an SLP cat-back and K&N filter. Just need suggestions on those 2 things.

Man, with that big of a cam, I wouldn't go under a 4000 stall. As for the gears, 3.73's are the only ones I would recommend for an auto.

Also, I may be wrong, but idk if that cam will clear your heads. What kind of car is it?

2002 Trans Am WS6. I have heard that it will work with stock heads, which is what I have.

Stock 243's might be ok. I haven't really looked into ptv clearance with that cam much. But you definitely need a 4000 stall.

Agreed no less than a 4,000. Id say do a 4400 with 3.73's

My friend has his setup like that and the car runs hard.

You should be fine with stock heads on a 2002.

stock heads are fine as long as the heads have never been removed.

if you pull the heads, cut in valve relieves. and mill the heads for more compression. the trex responds very well to higher compression.

The best way to find out what stall is best for your car is to install all the parts you have and then have the car tuned and dynoed. Find where you are making peak torque at and for a street car you want the stall # to be 500-800 rpm less than where your peak torque came in (example: if you made peak torque at 4600rpm then you would want a stall converter built to about a 4000stall) if it is a racetrack only car then you would go 500-800 above where your peak torque is coming in at (example: if you are made peak torque at 4600rpm then you would want a 5200rpm stall converter). Hope this helps..

The only down side to doing it this way is after you get your stall you will have to get the car retuned. Most shops won't recharge you for this if they did the first tune (at least Futral didn't charge me anything extra). The other way you would want to go about doing this is call yank, Circle D or PTC and let them custom build you a converter for your car.

go with a 4000 stall and 4.10 gears. thats the only way to go with autos and a big cam. using a 4400 you will lose mph on the top end. good luck

I would measure your PtV clearance any ways as that is a large cam. I agree that I'd take the extra step, pull the heads, flycut, and mill. It'll be a safer setup that makes more power for only a slight increase in cost.

On the converter I'd go with a 4000 minimum and 3.90-4.11 gears depeding on your tire diameter.

I talked to R.P.M. in Garner, NC. They suggested a Yank SS3600 stall and 3:73 gears with a TRex.

The 3600 will work, but 4000 will be alot better.
