Default Stock ls1 lifter preload??

I'm installing a 230/236 540/540 110 cam in a 04 gro with an 03 block with stock ls6 heads. The stock ls1 pushrods r a bit long. How much can I preload the lifers. I want to be safe.

If I didn't mention anything aftermarket then it's stock

Thanks

Anthony

something like .030 is stock. any more than that and you will get nasty valvetrain noise and collapsed lifters.

That's incorrect. A lot of people run close to .100. I have my preload at .085 and I don't have any valve train noise. The noise come from less preload.

Stock lifter's should be 0.060 preload as I recall. LS7 lifter's can handle a bit more.

I've never had my car so quiet out front as I did this weekend getting proper preload on my lifters. You have to strain to hear lifter noise over the exhaust note of my car now.

manufacturer suggested preload is 0.05'' - 0.08''

some people go as much as 0.10'' preload. I went with 0.06'' and I haven't had any problems.

Damn...thats what happens when you run solid lifters for so long. I stand corrected.

Pre-load varies with lifters.

Stock LS1's were 0.050 to 0.080 with 0.06 as ideal.

The LS7 lifters were a little taller in the cup allowing a bit more pre-load to be used.

Running more is not necessarily quieter. I ran 0.09~ and had terrible lifter noise on long cruises and at the end of 1/4 mile runs. I started with 0.08 as recommended by a vendor, went to 7.4 (0.09~ preload), now backed down to 7.375 now with ~0.07 preload.

Valvetrain is near silent now.
