Default Were there different model 241 heads?

I have a friend that says he has a set of 241s that I can have but they are the earlier model? He said he thinks the difference is the valve covers? Was there 2 diff models of the 241 heads? Thanks

I think the 241's are all the same, but actual expert will give you the real answer.

806 and 933 were the early style ls1 head with perimeter bolt valve covers. 853 and 241 were the late style ls1 head with center bolt valve covers. The ports, valves and combustion chamber sizes were the same all throughout.

Thanks for all the info. So from what I gather here, I can have my friend do some machine work to them and they'll be just the same as if I had a set of worked over 241's? I just need the correct valve covers. Would there be anything better about the 241s?

And this is off topic from the OP, but what is the size diff between 241s and 243s? Trying to do my research before I chose the heads for my car. Thanks again

i dont understand your first paragraph. All the castings in my above post are equal. No difference besides the valve cover bolt style.

243s are mainly off ls6s and ls2s. Valves are the same size compared to the above castings however the ports are larger (210cc vs 200cc and 75cc vs 70cc) and the combustion chambers are smaller (roughly 64cc to 66cc). All other things equal, the smaller chambers will give u about .4 points in added compression.

Sry I'm on my phone typing all this and guess I typed it all out wrong. I was just asking if there was any benefit to getting the 241 heads I have on my car machined over getting the heads he has (806 or 943) machined but it seems like it wouldn't be any different. And you answered my question bout the 241 v. 243 so that does it. Thanks for your help.

If you use the 806 you'll have to change valve covers and coil brackets. I would personally stick with having the 241's worked on.

That's the plan. I was going to take my 241s off and put these heads on, then have him work my 241s and build them for a cam off the car then when I have everything to (re)build my car put them on.
