i dont know much about heads or a cam and i was wondering if heads would be the next mod i should purchase.
i have a 98 z28 with a lid ls6 intake thats pretty much it.
im new to all this so idk what my next mod purchase should be?
I eventually want a 400+ hp car that i could keep a dd?

headers and a better flowing exhaust system.TSP head/cam combo,with a 228r cam.and a good converter.

While you can add mods in just about any order, most people do not start with the heads. For your goals, you will eventually need headers and exhaust. Unless you plan to go the stealth route, I would work in this general order:

-Bolt-ons (you've already done the lid and intake)
-Headers & Exhaust of your choice (after cat, true duals, etc)
-Cam, Valvesprings, Pushrods, Oil Pump and Timing Set (now is the time to add a pulley as well)
-Heads

That order builds on the mods you have already done so that you get the best gains from each new phase. You can certainly start with a set of heads, but they will probably not perform to their potential breathing through your stock exhaust manifolds. Same goes for cam - again, unless you want to go stealth.

Best bet is to plan your mods and stick with the plan.

I'd agree that the bolt-ons like headers and the rest of the exhaust system would be my next mods to get the engine breathing before going heads/cam. Without those mods, you will not see the gains you want from heads/cam and many will be hugely disappointed in the "bang" they get from their H/C "bucks" without the bolt-ons having been done first!

I would suggest heads first such as the AFR 205. There are few modifications that can make substantial power & torque gains everywhere. No DD compromise just better everything everywhere.

That would make a very good base building block that would enhance anything you do after-wards.

Unless of course you just are concerned about the upper power numbers, under curve is were we are most of the time.

thanks everyone.
ive been thinking about it and i think im going with kooks headers and a custom true dual exhaust.
and as for the heads ive heard alot about 243 heads are they good? worth buying? and what would be a good cam for them?
and i dont think im staying with the stock tb and ls6 im thinking about the fast 92/92? would that be a set up pushing 400+?

Long tube headers, a good flowing exhaust system, underdrive pulley, LS6 intake, aftermarket lid to name a few. Once those are on the car you would be in a good spot to get a cam. Without most of those the cam won't make as much power.

i would buy a ported ls6 pump and double roller from a vendor such as Texas Speed..but you dont realy need that stuff untill you do a cam swap..If I were you i would do full exhaust(long tubes, ory, catback) then a cai (fast toys, slp etc.) then i would do underdrive pulley, cam, valvetrain, oil pump and timing chain. then heads and a fast..

Thanks everyone i appreciate the advise. I think im going with the full exhaust still undecided if i should get a ory and a cat back or true duals?
then going with the pulley cam and everything i need with it. then take it from there concerning the heads.

Wouldn't a true dual be better than a ory and a catback?
