Default Internal engine - tool quest

What does everyone use to clean up the piston faces when doing head jobs and such? I saw a thread where dude used something looking like a round rubber bristle-fingered brush, but lost that thread. . . Considering yanking my heads shortly to redo gaskets (I've got chocolate milk for coolant - have had for 3 years. . . . . .) so I'm doing prep investigations

Thanks,

D

Yellow bristle Roloc discs. I think this is the thread you are talking about.

The choc milk coolant could just be from the coolant sludging up over time. Dexcool does that. If you've got choc milk in the crankcase/oil, THEN you need to pull the heads.

As for the roloc disk, if you've never used one I would advise AGAINST using this tool. If you're not careful you will dig into the block and then you just bought yourself a teardown/rebuild.

I use scothchbrite pads or disks while running a vacuum. They shed less than other abrasives and the green pads remove little to no material.

Don't know about your coolant but GM uses coolant tabs in their engines straight from the factory.Causes the dexcool to look like brown chunky gunk... I've never seen it look milky though unless mixed w/oil.

I haven't had coolant in the car in a long time (water since I got the car). The 'chocolate milk' is definitly oil, just been waiting to either blow it all to hell or ride it out. I'm finally (after 3 years. . .) deciding to fix it. I've done about 90 or so of my 125 1/4 mile passes w/the car like this. I know it didn't help. Isn't that roloc bristle disc rubber or something? The vacuum while sanding/discing is a great idea I hadn't thought of, thanks!
