Default My motor is in trouble. Help me out please

Ok, last night we had a flash flood here in Chico. All our streets were knee deep and my car was on the street. I ran home as soon as i could and moved it to the driveway. The RPMs were a bit sporadic, but I was under the impression the car was just cold. I have a K&N FIPK, so It could not have drawn water from the bottom of the car. The oil pan was submerged, and so was a portion of the exhaust. Anyway, I drove 2 miles today before I heard a loud "bang" and the car felt like it was on its last leg. There was some smoke and oil leaking. We towed it home, and no more oil leaked. I pulled one of the valve covers to check if I dropped a valve, and I'm pulling the other tomorrow. I need some advice. What do you guys think happened? What should I check for?

-Chris

check your oil pan, you might have snapped a rod. i did the same thing but mine didn't run again after i heard the bang cause i found a hole about the size of 3 fingers on the passenger side from #7 rod. good luck!

A bang followed by dripping oil is a BAD sign. I feel for ya. I had that happen to mine a couple weeks ago. Number one piston exited through the oil pan.

Well if it didn't suck up any water you should be good. A loud bang is not good though, did everything look ok under the valve covers?

I'm gonna lean toward a little water getting in the cylinder bending a rod the night it flooded setting it up for failure. Good luck. I sure hope I'm wrong.

Check for compression on all cylinders. drain what oil is left and inspect. Last, Pull oil pan for an inspection.

Even with a fipk, if the water was deep enough it could slosh over the rad support and get in. Any water damage to the interior?

Like was said, loud bang and dripping oil is bad.. I just dropped a valve, and it sucks! I think the first thing you should do before taking anything apart is to just get under it to find out where the oil even came from. If there was oil dripping, there may be a hole.

When my valve dropped, I checked the code and it threw a crank position code. Pulled the sensor, and it was clearly hit by something, so try to start simple, and go from there.

It was almost a year ago I put it in, however it only had 1350 miles on it. I laid into it pretty good, loud bang, smoke covering two lanes and a 200 foot trail of pennzoil platinum on the road. It went out with a bang

What I found resting on the k member:

If the engine is toast (hope it's not...) could you put a claim in to your auto insurance company, assuming it was due to the flood?

my thoughts exactly!

My eyes went like when I read that in his post

OP - Start by finding the leak and call your insurance company before you tear it down...
