Default cam help with AFR heads

Ok, so I'm going to be running AFR 205 heads milled to 62cc and want to get some help with what cam. My car is a 2002 WS6, 6 speed, long tubes with dual exhaust. The car will be running the stock LS6 intake for now. I would like to make around 450 rwhp with this setup, but want a cam that's got a good power range. I don't want some big *** cam that is usless under the power curve. I also want a cam that lopes pretty hard and sounds like an old school muscle car. I also don't want to flycut. I was thinking something along the lines of the Torquer V.3. Whould that cam work well with those heads. The car gets driven only a handful of times each month, so it's not a DD. As far as track goes, after my setup is complete, I will be going to the track, but will mostly be a street car. Any help will be greatly appriceated.

Yup, talk to the man himself. I know AFR's 6016 cam makes great power with those heads, but it doesnt really lope.

I had the afr heads with a similar cam to the torquer cam. Mine was a pat g 230/234 111+2 lsa .613/.598 it drove almost like stock on the street and made 425hp and 396 lb ft with a slipping clutch on a stingy dyno but it pulled just as hard as other h/c cars I know in a heavy *** 3900 lb convertible. It was a very good street strip setup but next time I do a h/c swap I might go a little bigger

Alot of this was covered in a former thread you started which I also responded in....(See post #15)

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...led-heads.html

The bottom line is what you want is hard to achieve without flycutting.

I would say the best compromise is a 228/232 on a 112 LSA but you WILL have a good bit less than the textbook minimum P to V clearance. A 114 LSA would improve it a little but also not idle was as much lope as you seem to crave (but make good power).

Thats about it.....forget about stuff in the 230's.....it wont leave you enough of a safety margin (P to V) and starts getting kind of soggy below 3000 RPM's.

-Tony

PS....This question has been asked so many times it really ought to be a sticky of some kind.

Do the pistons and get the cam you want! Simple as that....

Tony is great guy and knows best with the heads you have and what you are expecting, take it from him and he will make sure you get it and get it done right!...the first time!

Some HAD a problem....

If you want to roll the dice with less than .040 P to V (which is far more dangerous with a hydraulic roller), the set-up you describe above is perfect.

Ask one person that ran that combo how much room they had....I assure you that you wont get an answer because most went in blind (because they were told on the Internet they could and others before them did).

Do some digging around and you will find some threads of the people who rolled that dice and didn't get lucky.

o ok thanks for clearing that up...i kinda thought that cam was little big to be running with afr heads milled to 59cc's.

yeah heads were 62cc's but i ran stock gaskets. the guy i bought my heads from was running an f13 (230/232) cam with the heads and cometic .040 gaskets. Honestly the cam worked great for a street strip car with those heads and i think anything similar will be what your looking for

I have a 224/228 .600 .600 114 from Ed Curtis at FTI that I used with my AFR 205 heads at 62c. I made 454 rwhp with it and ran 11.49 at the track. It's in my sig for 2009. I went a little bigger this year when Tony ported the heads and I went to 61cc. PM me if you're interested in it at a good price.

Your criteria sound exactly like mine did when I was shopping for my setup last year. I have AFR 205s milled to 62cc and Pat G recommended a 231/235 right around .615-.620" lift on both intake and exhaust (can't remember the exact number off the top of my head) with LSL lobes. Anyways I put on the .040" cometics at the same time and I only had to flycut about .015" because the intake was going to be around .065" clearance. Exhaust had plenty of clearance. It's really simple to flycut especially if you have the ability to do a H/C swap on your own - just rent the Lindy tool. I don't have a dyno number with my ported 90/90 setup but on a slipping stock clutch it trapped 121.4 with a 1400 DA, only 24 deg of timing, and race weight around 3200. Hoping for 123+ traps later this week. Also shooting for around 450-460 RWHP when I hit the dyno sometime this Fall.
