Lq4 lq9 or LS1?
Lq4 lq9 or LS1? Looking to build some more power wanting atleast 500 to the wheels but I have to buy a motor to build as I want to leave my stock one alone. What should I start with? When I get a LQ4-9 not sure what the difference is but does everything interchange like bellhousing, alternator,A/C,powersteering brackets,waterpump and sensors etc?
I would go LQ9 if possible. Everything will transfer over no problem and you have the chance to punch it out to a 408 stroker. 500rwhp shouldn't be too hard to hit once you have that done.

go with the LQ4 or LQ9. dirt cheap compared to the LS1. Drop on a set of L92 heads and 500hp should be real easy. Car craft did a build of an LQ4 with stock cast iron heads and stock short block. They swapped in the GMPP Hot Cam and made 480HP with a carb setup on the motor.
I was going to build my 116k mile LS1... backed out and went with a 404 cu LQ9, with a small'ish V2 cam, a great set of TEA heads, FAST92/NW92, Build Tranny, Circle-D 3400 stall and Moser 9". I'll never look back, this is going to be a great DD and a monster at the track.
Cost Comparison is so close the few extra dollars are worth it, Iron block only weighs 60-80lbs more, Forged for Nitrous down the road, give the guys at Texas Speed a call, I should have mine put together and tuned by mid Oct.
