im looking at picking up an 02 seirra 2wd with a 4.8 in it, but it was pretty high millage on it so i was planning on pulling the engine and ripping it apart. is there anything i could do to upgrade the performance of the 4.8 or would it be better if i just tried to find a bigger engine with lower miles?

 

If it is going to be your DD then leave the engine as is because I have seen them with well over 200,xxx miles still running like new.

 

Unless it is free, I would save my money and look for a 5.3L or something bigger. You can pick up 5.3L CHEAP! (Couple hundred if that much!) The bigger motors will definitely respond better to mods if you are planning on doing some of that stuff. IMO, I wouldn't waste the money on the 4.8L.
