Default What oil?

I posted this over in road racing also, but wanted to get a broader audience.

I ran 3 sessions on the road race yesterday in 85-90+ degree heat and by midway each time my oil pressure had dropped significantly, but would come right back up after a short cool down. I checked the gauge with a manual one and it was accurate. I was running royal purple 10-30.

What might be a better choice for this in the heat? (02 ss camaro)

get rid of that royal purple ASAP. doesnt like to be heated up alot breaks down. If you want some crazy road/race stuff look at mainlube.com.au or castrol edge 10w-60.

For road racing I would look at at Bio-Syn 5W-40 HD from Renewable Luricants Inc. (renewablelube dot com). This was formulated for Audi's 24-hour endurance racing program when no other oil was working.

Bondurant racing school was running Mobil-1 15W-50 in their LS1 cars back in 2004 when I went there.

I started using it in mine afterward, been using it for the past 6 years and 14 track days with no issues.

Thx for the replies. A cooler is already in the works. I guess I should have asked while at Bondurant. We ran on firebirds main, combined with their (Bondurant) creating a 2.5 mile course.

I agree with Mobil-1 15W-50. That's good stuff.

Well Mobil 15w-50 is as compatable with an oil cooler as it is with OEM bearing clearances.

Oil coolers can be problematic in DD operation since they may keep the oil below the operating temperature necessary to keep moisture out of the oil. If used in conjunction with an inline thermostat that problem can be avoided.

I used to run royal purple with a quart of the lucas oil stabilizer/thickener and in hot weather my oil pressure would be about 30. I switched back to Mobile 1 10w-30 and jumped back to 45 in the same conditions I was getting 40 with the royal purple. Royal Purple just runs too thin.
