Default 5.3 heads and cam question.

Ok guys i need your help I'm new to ls1tech, and have a 98 firebird with 190,000 hwy miles which still runs like new when I bought in 98. I use to drive to California from Texas a lot. So I'm wanting to do some upgrades to the ls1, like a heads and cam swap. I can get a set of 862 heads for 50 bucks, I am going to use 2.00 valves and have a set of yellow ls6 springs I'm going to use on them, im also going to port them myself, now what cam should I get? These are some of the cam specs I'm looking at
.525 .525 218 228 112lsa

.580 .590 236 242 112lsa

.597 .592 235 240 112lsa
Any input would be great thanks guys, oh ls1tech rocks

With smaller cc chambers and higher lift you can run into piston to valve clearance issues. Depending on if you're milling them or not you may be able to run one of the later two you posted, otherwise you might want to stick with the first one.

If I'm not mistaken, and I don't think I am, those heads have 2.00 valves stock. Also, the ls6 springs aren't good for that kind of lift (except for the first cam listed). I recommend getting a set of good dual springs and some hardened pushrods if you are going to swap the cam.

Yeah I'm thinking about upgrading the springs but just wanted to know if I could use them since I already had them. I'm also going to get new hardened pushrods but do I still use the stock 7.4 length rods? Oh how much should I get the heads milled down before I run into piston to valve clearance?

practice porting on the heads you take off the motor and save up for some 243 heads.what rear gears are you running?headers and exhaust?get a ls6 intake.look at some cams from TSP.
