5.3 questions
5.3 questions I'm having trouble finding out what years the 5.3 production run was and if it was on anything else other than the fullsize pickups, and also what years were throttle cable and what years were drive by wire. I'm doing a swap in my 96 s-10 and I already have 241 heads and an LS1 intake, just want a 5.3 shortblock because it seems like the most cost effective route to go.
I also wanted to know if the PCM that comes with the 5.3 is the same or not. I plan on using HP Tuners on whatever PCM I get but I don't want to spend the extra on a 5.3 harness and PCM if it's not as good as the LS1 stuff.

Gen III 5.3:
Started in 1999 in the Pickups and SUVs
99-00 ~270 hp
01-02 ~285 hp
03-06 ~295 hp
**05-06 ~310 hp (this is the all-aluminum version that was in some Z71 pickups and in the SSR initially, higher compression due to flat top pistons and 243/799 heads.)
Drive-by-wire started in 2003
If you bolt stock/unmodified 241 heads, you will lose power due to less compression.
PCM is the same and can be tuned with HPTuners
There is also the Gen IV version that is not being produced, but it will be easier to swap a Gen III.
