Default 5.3 heads question

i have a 2000 trans am stock bottom end stock heads with .650 lift spring kit, and a 236/242 .580/.590 114lsa cam. Would stock 5.3 #799 heads be beneficial? And would the springs that are in my 241 heads work on the 799's?

799s are not "5.3" heads. They do however occasionally come on 5.3s. But when you see people say they have ported 5.3s this is not the casting number they are referring to. 799/243s are the same casting and they are referred to as LS6 castings. People have spotted 243s on 5.3s also but that doesn't make them 5.3 heads either. And yes they should net you 10-15 hp over 241 heads. Yes the springs will work fine. And excuse the delay, there isn't much activity around here at 1:39 A.M.

I had a set 5.3 #706 on my LS1 a few years ago, The 5.3 heads has smaller valve and intake runners, but can be ported, and the stock 5.3 intake seats will hold a 2.02" valve and the exhaust seat will hold a 1.55" valve. The valve springs will fit. And the 5.3 heads has smaller chamber that will raise your compression.

i actually just found a set of #706 heads for a great price, but they're stock. Would i see any gains off of them if they're unported and have the the stock valves? And will my springs work on the stock valves?

Don't waste your time on a 5.3 head unless you have extensive knowledge of how to port them and can do most of the machine work yourself otherwise just buy 243s or 799s and start out with a much better head with doing nothing.
