Stock crank & rods?

Default Stock crank & rods?

I have had my LQ4 block sitting in the corner of my shop for over a year now, it has been completed inspected, machined and final honed for my Foraged Mahle 4.030" pistons. I have been waiting for the day I can afford a set of rods, but the funds are just not adding up. I had always planned on using a stock LS1 crank out of a 98 Vette motor I have laying around and all the rods are good in that vette motor.

I have recently been itching to just assemble the engine with the stock 98 Vette rods. Since I have been "Saving" for rods for over a year I'll probably never have the cash for the forced induction that I had planned on in the future.

I helped a buddy do a procharger on a otherwise stock 99 T/A and I was happy with the results So I guess my question is will have have a decent bottom end using the stock rods or should I keep working on a beefed up rotating asy.

I would check and see what rods the pistons you have are designed for. Aftermarket rods are longer and designed for a different wrist pin. The stock internals can usually handle up to 600rwhp, anything above that and you are pushing your luck. As long as your power goals aren't above that I don't see a problem using the stock rods.

Yeha, they are for the stock length rod, I was planing on using the stock rods when I bought the pistons, then really started thinking about forced induction If I do use an aftermarket rod I need to order them the stock length. It's obvious to me right now I can't afford a decent FI setup and I was very impressed with the #'s we got out of a simple P1SC on a otherwise stock LS1 T/A

I think I'm just gonna have the parts I have now balanced run what I already have (Stock crank & Rods W/ foraged pistons)

If I come into the cash later I can always grab another LQx block
