480 on a 346 can be done but is not easy unless you have a FAT wallet.

Go search the dyno section and see what setups are making what. And just because one setup makes 450 does't mean you will. There are just too many other variables.....

My last piece of advice is get the BEST heads you can get. Hit the classifieds and you should be able to pick up an aftermarket casting for around the price of a new OEM ported casting..

I made 463hp 414tq on a 346ci. afr 205 heads,g5x3 cam,non ported 90 fast w/th-body,85mm mass,asp pulley,kook 1 3/4,off roads,b&b catback,12 bolt w/4.11's,m6 car. if it was that easy everyone would have 490hp on a 346ci.
You will need good heads as a base to get what you want. I do not like 5.3 heads at all. I like trick flow(i have them now) afr (had them) because i know they do the job. Another head i see alot and i have no clue if it's good or not are the prc heads. The prc heads could be popular just due to price and great claims of flow for all i know. might want to do a search on them. for me, i would never buy them over afr or trick flow to go on my car. Good luck with your build.

Depending on you cash flow I would look into a 215 head from trick flow or search the prc. I would get the compression up to 11.2-11.5 on pump to get the most from it. port the fast, have a good exhaust, asp pulley and get a cam to match. The combo needs to work togeather and you will get 460-480hp on a m6 car.

Of course don't hesitate in checking out some of the builders over yonder>>>...most of the guys already mentioned key players in the head game. I personally (and biased-ly) like Performance Inductions stuff (PI) but they are a little pricey. Get what you pay for....

Think you can get there, just depends on wallet size and what you're willing to give up on the street.

I don't have my car yet so I can't speak from personal experience, but I do have a buddy on here that put down the power numbers your looking for with the prc 5.3 2.5 heads on a stock bottom end LS1. That and a 120 shot and he ran 11.20 up here at bandimere at 6000 ft PA. Don't know what the DA was that day. There's a video of the run on the Bandimere website. It is possible to make the power your looking for on the 5.3 heads with all other supporting mods and a good tune.
