Default Timing and Underdrive Pulley

Guys quick question. If your timing marks on the timing chain are correct, mean dot to dot, When you go to put on your pulley what that mess up your dot to dot if your crank spins? Does the dot to dot have to be there when you first start it up?

On an LS series engine, the balancer has no involvement with determining timing, and is not even keyed. So, no reason to worry about timing when you do an underdrive pulley.

I understand this but when you go to torque the balancer bolt down and the crank spins that will throw your dot to dot off wont it? Or is it that as long as you lined up dot to dot when installing the timing chain it doesn't matter if the car starts on dot to dot?

Like grimes said the balancer has no bearing on the timing. You could spin it a million times and it wont make a difference. That being said the crank shouldnt move when tightening the balancer bolt or you'll never get it torqued down to spec.

the dot to dot is only important when you are installing the timing chain... after that it is timed and locked in place. pulley has nothing to do with it, unless you install the pulley before you install the timing chain.. but then you have bigger problems.

That's right. Once you bolt the cam sprocket on, your done with timing.
