Default Rod bolts

Freshening up a stock LQ4 to go in my daily driver 2500 pickup. Im adding long tubes, 243 heads, and a custom EPS cam 218 intake 224 exhaust. It will also get 42lb injectors and a custom tune. The stock long block has 55k and is an 04. Is it foolish of me not to upgrade the rod bolts?

Nope, it is not foolish. Upgrading the rod bolts have resulted in mixed reviews- sometimes there are no issues, and in other cases there have been issues. Some engine builders say that using fasteners for which the rods were not originally set up for is not a good idea.

I think you're crazy to upgrade the bolts without having the rods resized.

Thats what I always thought as well. Never even considered such a thing with the older engines I have built, but it seems many do it on these LS engines.

Let em be. You shouldn't be turning crazy rpm with that cam anyway.

Nope, its a daily driver work pickup that will still do some moderate towing. The cam has 4 degrees advance ground in. Im looking for some serious low and midrange torque.
