Default Need LS1 info for install and HP

I have a 2000 LS-1 out of a Firbird and I want to install it into a 1968 C-10 Streetrod truck. I want to build the engine with more than the factory 320 HP and am considering a cam setup to help boost the HP to an area around 375 to 400. I saw a gentleman down in Tulsa, OK with a similar truck setup, but using a 5.3 truck engine as his engine. He used a Texas Speed 25-224XE cam with the following info 224/224 @.50 and .566/.566 and it is set at 112 degrees for a good rough idle. He has the engine installed with a set of 42 lb injectors and the factory intake, but it has a tune done to the computer. He followed it up with a 3600 stall converter to his OD tranny. Comp Cams has suggested their cam profile on the following cam ---XFI camshaft series part# 54-54-414-11---

I believe that he may have overdone the injectors and the stall numbers a little bit, but the truck undeniably runs great. Can anyone provide a good copmbination for a good streetable engine. I have been told that I would be better with a set of 36 lb injectors and my past experience tells me that I may need a lower stall converter. I want to update the intake to an LS6 intake and will be using Doug Thorley LT headers to a set of duals feeding an automatic to a 3.42 or 3.73 geared rear end.

Anyone that has played w ith the LS1 engines can you provide feedback?

TSP 224r/228r or maybe an EPS 222/226. the EPS cams are supposed to be easier on the valve train and make more power than other comparable cams.

yes 36lb injectors would be fine.

i would say to make your 400 rwhp goal through an auto you will need an ls6 intake, head porting wouldn't hurt, and a dyno tune.

any time you do a cam swap on a ls1 you have to at least upgrade the push rods, valve springs, and timing set. also it would be worth looking into new lifters, better oil pump, and an ls6 pcv system.

if you have any more questions just ask.

I have talked to a number of individuals and I have been told that the only other thing that I need to do is change over to the 918 "Beehive" springs from Comp Cams. Nothing was stated as to if the pushrods would need changing. If I change the cam, I would seriously consider the timing set, just a habit that I stick to. As stated, I am planning an LS6 intake. I have the oil pan off now, so the oil pump is not a real problem. Your suggestions for which pushrods to consider, would be?

comp magnum 7.400 x 5/16.

also look at the melling high volume pump part # 10296.

i assure you from experience that both of these things are cheap insurance and are worth while.

Thanks for the input. I have been in the OOOPS department before and I don't go there anymore, it is smarter to do it right..

So Brian, with the combination that you run on your setup, is it streetable and able to drive without a lot of pain? I do not want to have to fight the truck on long trips.

my set up is VERY streetable. the car in my sig is my daily driver. i made 396 rwhp and i never get problems with surging or bucking. the car idles beautifuly with the a/c on in mid summer with out ever touching 210 deg. my only regret is not going with the 228r 112 lsa. if i had i would be at around 410-415 rwhp and have the same driveability.

here is my dyno sheet to give you an idea.
(bottom curve was with 241 heads)

set up was
224/224 .581/.581 114 lsa
stock 799 heads from an ls2
comp push rods
patriot gold dual valve springs
ls2 timing set
melling hv oil pump
ls6 intake
85mm tb
slp lid
30 lb svo injectors
1 3/4" pacesetter lt's
3" y-pipe to 4" merge
4" mufflex cat back with spintech muffler
m6
10 bolt

Did you go through GM for the LS2 timing set?

I see that Texas Speed carries such an item. Any thoughts on which lifters would be best?
