Default Indexing/clocking lifters?

I have read that the lifters in an LS engine must be clocked or indexed so that the oil holes line up with the oil gallery in the block. Is there any truth to this and if so, please explain the procedure.
Thanks,
Peter

No that's not true. You can just put them in the lifter tray and slide in 4 at a time.

I agree. Doesn't make any difference.

Are there any specific applications that need this procedure? Supposedly W2W in a published article stated that it is necessary to maintain oil pressure. Just asking the question, not refuting the replies.
Thanks,
Peter
