Default Oil Pump Failure?

I have been hearing a new odd noise from the passenger side of the engine the last few times I drove the car. Today a friend and I were listening to it. I shut it off for maybe 10 minutes and when I restarted it there was no oil pressure. What happened? Did the oil pump fail? If so, could I have been hearing it going out?

You need to verify for sure you do or do not have oil pressure. What kinds of noises were you hearing exactly?

when that happened to me i had erratic OP readings on start up but they evened out, never had any weird noise. but one day i just cranked my car up and it had 0 OP so i killed it and towed it to my mechanic. they checked it out and sure enough it was flat lined. out came the stock pump for a melling hv.

Or is this actually an engine problem? It seemed to be running normally though. The sound is hard to describe, kind of a rattle/knock like something is loose. What happens when you spin a bearing?

That is a common noise associated with spun rod bearings . Does the noise get faster and not change volume with rpm increase ? If so , most likely rod bearing . Good luck.
