Default 6.0 differences

I can get an iron headed 6.0 out of a 2000 silverado2500 with 13k. What if any are the differences between this and the 02 and up aluminum headed 6.0's? most talk of and parts I hear of mention 02-06. I wont be using the iron heads anyway so I'm really only concerned with the block and rotating assembly. any help would be appreciated so I don't miss out on this motor.

The iron 6.0 liter you are looking at is a generation III. Based on the literature I have read all of the Generation III 6.0 liter blocks (LQ4 & LQ9) were iron. Generation III aluminum blocks came in other sizes - 5.7 liter, 4.8 liter, and 5.3 liter.

If that is correct any 6.0 liter aluminum block is a Generation IV with the typical differences.

I'm most concerned with the crank and transmission mounting. I want to do a 4l60e but, I've heard of the rear of the crank being longer or shorter and flexplates being different. just trying to get it all straight befor I make a purchase that I can't use. Thanks

Yes, the iron headed 6.0 has a crank with a longer snout at the rear. I can't vouch for transmission fitment, but I do know it does have a different crank than the aluminum headed 6.0's.
