i'm in the same boat...i'm considering just freshening up my transmission and putting a 34-3600 stall since that's pretty universal for most cams.

I would say this if the engine has had no mods then its a little late to start the mod game. While my car has 115K miles on her she has had the mods for about 3 years now. Do a good stall if it still stock anywhere between a 2K-2800 stall will be fine. I would also firm up your pressure by 25%. The GM stock tranny is made to slip for a good DD car. Thus creating heat and so and so on. With a stall you will create a little more heat thus cutting down the life more of the tranny. With less slippage and a stronger shift there will be less heat created. What you can also do is buy a new valve body for the tranny and it will give it a longer life.

Good Luck.

At the very least do or buy an oil pump...yours is on borrowed time many claim the pump starts to fail around 100,000 miles and GM considers the service life of the motor to be 170,000 ...sure many go miles beyond that ..but watch that oil pressure like a Hawk. don't trust the stock gauge for oil or temps , A timing chain while your there would also be a safe bet
IMO
