not to familiar with the ls series but i was wondering is the ls7 a small block or a big block

It's actually based on the small block architecture. It's almost a "hybrid" of sorts. 427 is supposed to be a BB, but the way this newer block design is, it's almost all the same block dimensions, just different build dimensions internally.

It is neither. Its not even a chevrolet. Its a GM and I dont even think chevrolet has an engine division any more.

GM considers all Gen III/ Gen IV motors as small blocks.....

^ easily. They have an LSX 454 package/crate. The LSX block can go up to 502 or 572, IIRC.
