I am installing the pp2 5.3 heads with the 231/237 tsp cam. I currently run sythentic mobil 1. What weight oil should i go with. Right now it has 5w 30 in it. Also, what filter does everyone run?

 

I do not think ther are "Stupid questions",perhaps stupid answers , of which mine be one ,I think you are ok if you are in cold weather, here in east TX I run sythentic
20-40 and run GM-AC filter

5-30 is what the engine calls for, if you are in a hot area and are going to be beatin all the time , 10-30 is ok. Any filter that is onsale works for me.

 

5W30 has been proven to increase the amount of oil consumption an LS1 has, regardless of climate. The factory recommends lighter weight oils like 5W30 because they cause less strain on an enigne, thus lowering emissions, when in reality, for an engine like the LS1, 10W30 is actually a more correct oil to be running. I have a 98 and would consume maybe 1/2 a quart every 3000 miles, now, with a mixture of 4 quarts of 10W30 and 2 quarts of 15W50, my consumption has gone down to an unmeasurable amount every 3000 miles.

I go with a mixture simply because I have ~70k miles on my engine, but if you had a lower mile engine you'd probably be alright with 10W30.

 

I've used Mobil1 10W-30 since my 1st oil change - also use the K&N Performance Gold Oil Filter (part# HP-1007 $8.99)
