Default Measuring push rod length,am i doing this wright?

1st i opened my push rod checker to same length as stock pushrod,,i then turned it down a couple of turns.i made sure both my valves are closed.i installed the pushrod checker and stock rocker hand tight the bolt.i lift up on the rocker end to see if i hear a tick,i kept adjust till tick went away.then i took the push rod checker out and counted the number of full 360 degree turns back to closed position.each full 360 degree turn is .050 ,correct?so 5.5x.050 equals .275.so then i add that to the 6.800 (for thr closed pushrod checker length)i get 7.075?does this sound wright to you guys?im using a ls1 bloc with texas speed stage 2 243 heads.ls7 lifters?i know i have to add about .080 for pre load, but my measurement sounds way to short to me?

5.5? No way...I don't think your lifters are on the base circle of the cam. Cam gear 12 oclock, crank 12 oclock will put both intake and exhaust lifters on the base circle of the cam on cylinder 1.

With your dots lined up with crank gear at 12 oclock and cam at 12 oclock.

Another way you can be sure is just install a pushrod into its bore, and rotate the engine by hand while keeping pressure on the pushrod until you feel it start to rise. Once it rises, keep rotating the crank by hand until you feel the pushrod start going back down. There will be a moment after the pushrod goes back down that it will not be moving at all when cranking the engine. It is that time where your lifter is on its base circle. You need to find that point where the pushrod is neither rising nor sinking. It will be a tiny bit amount of movement after the pushrod goes all the way back down.
