Default Burnt Valve??

Okay guys....this is a 5.3L motor...but more of a general motor question.

I had a misfire in my number 2 cylinder and low compression. I paid for a shop to diagnose this problem. They said I burnt a valve and now its not sealing. They quoted me $1700 for them to pull the head and send it off to get a valve job done.

What all does this include??? Can i just hot tank the head and clean it up..then buy new valves and seals and lap the valves to the head...then throw it back on???

Just curious if this is something that can be done without the machine shop.

first you need to find why your valves on cylinder 2 burnt?? and probably is because you have a leaking injector!! too much fuel will cause valves to burn they become smaller and like a egg shape!!

I agree, that valve didn't burn for no reason. You need to sort it out. Also, I would buy a new valve (stock head?) and lap it in myself. If they machine the valves then your geometry coul be off on the rockers.

wow its like they were trying to rob a blind person. i know the average person might now how to perform a valve job and what not, but its not rocket science to take the head off lol. i would definantly take it off yourself.
