Default TSP 231/237 users with milled heads....

Need some help.

tsp 231 / 237 .591/.598 @ 112*

TR 242 / 248 .608/.612 @ 110+2*

TR TRx makes life in stock engine, heads etc....with .070 clearance.
My heads 2.02/1.60 valves, milled .022

Stock gaskets are .052" compressed, gaskets to be used are .060" compressed.

Not sure the dynamic relationship behind the valve events, I have read until my eyes bleed and still have a hard time digesting the whole relationship.

Here goes:

Use -.022 milled heads, add .008 from gaskets equals -.016. Difference in cam (not sure of events as stated for relationship of valve size vs. lift at "XX" duration etc...) .017 for intake lift and 11* duration, and .014" for exhaust and 11* duration. Meaning if the events are identical sans the valve size, I would be in the clear by about .001 intake side (this is the closest of any right???) And under by .002 for the exhaust.

Basically I would love to bolt on some heads, without smacking my valves, before I deploy just to see if my theory is right about my cars lack luster track performance being related to the crappy factory #853 casting heads and I dont have a Isky Piston notcher available.

I would be so relieved if someone using this cam had milled heads, and measured their clearance. Thanks.

Charlie.

I don't think your 231/237 cam will clear with those heads. I have 2.02/1.57 heads milled .010. TSP told me that it will clear but will be close.

Theres really no way to tell for sure unless you measure it, but what you can do, is take a cam you know does clear, and then custom design a cam with similar intake opening and exhaust closing events, and just increase duration and lope separation.

For example:

I currently have heads milled .020" with stock gaskets. I am running a 228/224 112 +2 LSA cam. Through messing with a VE calculator, I came up that a 232/236 115 +3 LSA cam would have the same intake valve opening event, and 2 degrees later exhaust valve closing.

In theory, this cam should work well with my heads, make more power, and have no piston to valve clearance problems.

This is exactly what I didnt want to hear, but was prepared to hear. Really sucks, cause there is no way in hell I am pulling this off and not putting the heads on, and I dont have the time to wait for some new heads. Ughh. Guess it will be a project for summer 2005! Vacation in Afghanistan here I come.

I think the 231.237 will probably clear, we have run it on around 12 thou off heads, but I always like guys to check just to be sure

Jason theres only one way I would check this puppy out, install and turn til it clears, or stops. May sound a tad assclownery but I really would cry myself to sleep if I pulled them, measure and need to clearance only to install stock heads again. I know I could go thiker gaskets, but thats a crutch I am not willing to walk on seeing how the car is nitrous addict.
