Default Fixing Stripped Crank?

Well I got a 01 T/A with a 383 stroker motor in it (Supposidly) either way it was a good deal... but the crank is stripped except for maybe half a inch at the end.. now I remember using a helicoil a long time ago on a LT1 I had with bad threads what do you guys recommend here?

and the crank is a scat crank..... can u tell from just the snout by any chance?

My LQ4 crank has bad threads, I'm definitely going to heli-coil it. But I'm also gonna get stupid and install the damper with the cave-man tool, so I won't stress the heli-coil. The correct damper-installation tool might over-stress the fresh repair.
However, I'll be doing this before buttoning up the engine, because I want to make sure I don't hurt the thrust bearing or anything.

I am not sure if a helicoil can hold the torque that thecrank bolt specs to. You may need to just re tap it, You state that they are good 1/2 inch from the end, Do you mean the balancer side or the engine side of the hole? ALSO ISLODE,,,I hope by caveman tool you dont mean a hammer,,Installing your balancer with a hammer can cause serious damage to your engine.

they go fairly deep into the snout, are you saying that it threads in a few turns and stops, or that you cant get the bolt to grab unless its way in the snout.

If only the first half inch of threads are bad, that typically suggests someone tried to pull a damper on using the original bolt.
