Default Head and head gasket ?s ...

Starting to get parts for my cam swap with heads/intake upgrade. The engine is a stock 98 ls1 with 130k on it, I'm doing all the supporting mods (valve springs, timing chain, pushrods, oil pump) and I'm gonna do ls7 lifters while I have the heads off as well. My first question: is it worth it to go with 243 heads over 241's with that? I won't have them ported for awhile and either way its an upgrade from the stock crappy 806? heads I believe they are, just wondering if it's worth the $200 difference. My next question: what size head gaskets should I go with? Want to bump up the compression a little bit but nothing too crazy on this engine.

Definitely worth it to go 243s. It's a better head that has more potential down the road.

On gaskets, I wouldn't mess with Cometics on what you are doing. If you stay with the 806 castings, you need to run the GM graphite gaskets. If you change to a 241 or 243, I would put on a set of GM MLS gaskets. We have both on the shelf.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I have a 98, when i did my upgrade, I got a set of 243's and had TEA CNC port them for me, then used the GM MLS gaskets, been very happy.
