LS1 block VS. LQ9 block,
Ok which would you do? Right now my setup is a stock LS1 Longblock with TREX V2 cam, with a performamce products 85mm typhoon intake and throttle body with pacesetter LT headers, should i stay with the LS1 shortblock and bolt on a set of 243/799 heads or bolt everything onto the LQ9, what would be the difference in the 2 besides the weight of the block? I have the block already. this is a M6 car that is my DD and will see the dragstrip a few times.
The lq9 is stronger, but it weights more of course, other then that there's nothing better besides its a 6.0 instead of a 5.7, if your not going to FI it then I'd stick with ls1 for a street car
Both are not to bad on mileage. I've had cammed ls1's with over a 140k miles, great engines, anyways the lq9 has low miles but won't net you much more power over what you have now, so if your looking for more power I'd throw a set of ported heads on it and sell the lq9. Or keep the lq9 and make it a 408 stroker

The lq9 already has a version of the 243 heads.
Milling the 317s with ls2 head gaskets and installing the trex will result in a significant improvement over the ls1
Build the lq9 with lower miles and parts you have now. Or throw the 243s on the lq9 if it has no heads. I would never take a ls1 over a lq9
But that's just me

I wouldn't mind having an lq9 but when I do my motor upgrade to get rid of my 98 block I'm going with the ls2 or ls3 block bc there strong enough for tons of power and light, good luck on the sale, once you put heads on that it will be even more of a beast
Trex is a bmf in a 6spd car
And even better in a lq9
Trex pulls hard on top and it's psycho on spray
I shifted mine at 7000 and have hit it with 200 dose
One of my all time fave off the shelf cams. Built many engines with it and recommend it always to anyone who asks
My carb lq4 with 243 heads trex, Vic jr 750 carb and th350 with 4k stall went 10.6 n/a out the gate

Meant over the 5.7 ls1
More CI and can run higher scr. 364ci uses up the heads more than 346 and it's very noticeable. I've found the trex really works well with higher scr and ci

Op if ur lq9 Is a longblock equipped with 317 heads
It alredy has a version of 243 heads
317 use same intake/exhaust ports and valves as 243s
Just larger chambers
A slight mill with thinner ls2 gaskets will raise scr and improve quench
Although since it has flat top pistons, ptv must be verified with cam used. Which may result in having to cut in valve relieves in the pistons for adequate ptv clearance
