Default Another cam opinion Thread

So I have been doing some reading and getting mixed reviews. From the begining, I have a '95 that is getting an LS,M6 swap. Mods are as follows, Pacesetter L/Ts, ported TB, LM1 cat back(no cats),and yes there will be a tune done after it is done. The heads are the 843 castings.

Now to the 'ol let everyone beat this to death question. I have bought a T-Rak cam. I have read that it only makes good #'s after 4000 RPM. TR site says its power band is from 2400 to 6800. I have also been suggested to use the Futral F-13. My goals for this car is to be a good DD, if it sees the track twice a year I will be suprised(it only has a 10 bolt and I can't buy a better one right now).Numbers do mean a little (you wouldn't go around telling everyone you only had a two inch peacker would you?) so that is a small part of the problem but need drivability.

Would like to hear from ppl that have this cam as to what drivability it has.

Big (cam) numbers without the performance to back it up will look just as bad (maybe worse) when the light turns green. Your best bet is to have a custom cam done...I chose Pat G. Then you can have the best of both worlds, for the most part. Just trying to save you some disappointment when that guy with the smaller pecker comes along and has lots more toque than you. Torque and traction win on the street...stroking an ego with large cam numbers does not.

So do either of these cams have the bite to go with the bark?

I have heard a lot of good things about the Trak cam. It has a high intake lift (640 if I remember right). I think you might be pleased with it.

for a dd stick car i'd opt for a very small cam, if anything. i'd be trying to establish a trap speed goal first, then determine what it takes to get there. it'd be nice if the cam/power correlation was consistent, but it is not. i'd put the car together and see what it runs, first.

if you are getting a cam and that's that, i'd look a 220ish cam on a 110-112 lsa.

The first post in this thread should give you a little insight on the Trak...it is a bear to tune...and this guy is no slouch. https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...am-change.html The 224 cam that he went to fits right in line with what s346k said...and you won't have to dump the clutch at 3500+.
