Default I've got myself a problem.

I bought my 01 SLP Firehawk M6 about 3 months ago.. Right after I bought it, i changed the oil.. My oil light came on yesterday so when I got to work I checked it.. I was BELOW the last line that says ADD.. And from what I've been told when your Low oil light comes on that means its a quart or two low. SO theres somthing going on. I was told that it might be my PCV but there is WAY to much oil going through there for it to be just that. Can anyone speak from experience? I guess I'll just have to take it in tomorrow to the dealership and see what they say. Just wondering if I'm not the only one thats had this problem and what the dealership did to fix this problem. Thanks

Brandon

Couple things to check. When you changed the oil, did you compensate for the void left by an empty filter? Did you run the car for a few minutes after changing the oil to allow the oil to cycle through and ultimately fill the filter? That could be part of the problem. Sounds simple but some people overlook it.

Secondly - these cars are known to burn some oil. Its a hit or miss. Some burn more while some burn none. Your PVC valve could be causing some of this too. Especially in conjunction with the oil filter issue mentioned above.

Since you bought the Hawk used - was there any mods done to it? Heads in particular?

If you arent seeing smoke pouring out of the tailpipes under acceleration or have any SES lights - I wouldnt be TOOOO worried about. Probably something simple.

When I changed my oil the first time I forgot to fill the filter with oil before i put it up but i did let it run for a while, this second time I put oil in the filter before i put it up their... I've looked every where on the car and found no signs of oil leaking anywhere. No mods are done to the car other than a lid, and cat-back. I can understand burning a little oil to be normal, but 2 or 3 qts in 3K miles???

Are you getting any oil up into your throttle body or the bellows between the MAF and TB? I know you wont have 2-3 qts but if you have an issue, that might tell you that you are getting some blowby or oil passing through.

Dealer probably wont even notice and you can play ignorant with it anyhow. Or you can just borrow a MAF from someone who has the same model year car as you.
