Default rod knock questions

well i took my car to VA speed to get it tuned, because i installed headrers and tsp catted y pipe and they told me my car has a rod knock, ive never heard any knocking before i installed the headers. But i have a couple options, either get a new ls1 or fix it. how hard is it to fix? if i take it to a shop how much will it run me, or would it just be better to swap a low milage ls1?

Fix = Rebuild the whole engine. If you have a rod knocking then material from the rod bearing is scattered throughout the inside of your engine. Its getting sent through the oil pump and carried through every oiling galley and channel.

At a min. you will need to have crank ground/replaced. New rods/mains and cam bearings. New rings (if you can just get away with a hone) otherwise new pistons/rings (oversized), oil pump, timing chain, lifters, pushrods, rocker arms and camshaft. Total engine gasket kit. Plus machine work.

Its big $$$ either way.

Probably better off picking up a used ls1 for $1200 and up or even a 6.0L.

i would go for a LQ4 or LQ9 but i dont really know what needs to be changed or what ill have to do more research. are the 6.0l truck motors cheaper than the ls1?

Seems a lil strange. Exhaust leaks can sound very similar to engine/rod knocks.

yeah, just reuse the stockers. they'll work fine. mine have lasted for 40k+ miles so far after re-use.

my guess is if VA speed says there its a rod knock, its probably a rod knock and not an exhaust leak.

the thing is though when i installed the headers for some reason i was running on four cylinders so i didnt drive it. i took it to them and they got it back on all eight and went and did the tune and told me they were at "cruising speeds" on the dyno and they heard it. i didnt hear **** before i installed headers and y pipe
