Pushrod length question..

Getting ready to do a cam swap sometime before Invasion, so soon. Going on my 98 formula with 130k on the clock. I have a ported ls6 pump, ls2 timing chain, cam, doing pushrods, and gaskets. Lifters will be done when I get some 243s. My question for you guys is, what size pushrod do you think will be the right one? The cam is an EPS 234/242 .601/.605 111lsa..

YES! I know I need to measure and I will to make sure but the car is my daily so I only have a weekend to do it and cant have it sitting while I await pushrods for it. I want to order a set which seems to be the right size then measure just to be sure. I've heard a 7.425 is what I would need though. Let me know, thanks guys!

I know u don't have the time but you can buy a tool for that measurement

i ordered my cam from EPS as well. like most aftermarket cams, the base circle is slightly smaller than stock. geoff recommended to me that with stock u-milled heads, stock MLS gaskets, and stock lifters 7.425" is correct (that's 0.025" longer than stock). however, if you have upgraded to LS7 lifters this generally will negate that 0.025" because the cup height is higher than the stock LS1 and you will be back at 7.400". as another option, milling your heads 0.025" or using cometic 0.040" gaskets (equivalent to ~0.015" milling) generally puts the 7.400" pushrods back into their proper preload spec.

I totally understand where you are coming from with wanting a good educated guess on length so that you don't have to have your car down for another week waiting for pushrods. that's why i am sick and tired of hearing people telling you to measure first. measuring is important, but i think it's best to buy the pushrods you think are to correct and THEN measure... with all the smart people on the forum 95% of the time it's going to be within spec.

Thank you mattster!! Finally someone gave me what I need to know and didn't say measure! :kali: :bash: haha

Thanks though, looks like I'll be goin with the 7.425 for now since I'm leaving the heads/lifters alone until I get some 243s and ls7s, then I'll be back with some 7.4s. I completely agree though, better to have the pushrods you think you should use and double check rather than measure then wait a week for them to come UNLESS you have it as a second car, then put it down and measure.
