Another pushrod length question
Another pushrod length question I know I "should" just check it, but I figure this is a pretty standard setup so maybe someone has it and can chime in.
I have a '98 LS1 with stock untouched 241 heads, stock rockers, LS7 lifters, and an LS6 Z06 cam. IIRC, the cam card said to use 7.450" pushrods but can't remember for sure. I have 7.400" pushrods right now so if I'm .05" off guess I'll probably have to get new ones to avoid the ol' sewing machine.

You could run the risk of no preload with a 7.4 and then theres no telling what kind of damage may happen to the engine, If your near North Richland Hills (Fort Worth) I have the comp pushrod tool I can LEND you.
the LS7 lifters use less preload than the LS1 lifters. LS7 is around .060-.080 and the LS1 uses .080 to .100 i believe. are you using stock head gaskets? everything you change, changes pushrod length.

You can make your own if you like...take an old push rod and cut about 1/2" off at one end. Then cut another 1/2" out of the long end. Go to the local hardware store and get an 8/32" machine screw and two nuts.
Once you cut the head off the machine screw the threads will fit inside the body of the push rod and then either epoxy or tack the nuts onto the ends of the push rod and the 8/32" rod will connect the two halves making it adjustable so that you can get a measurement.
Not pretty, but it helped me get the stuff I needed earlier without having to wait on ordering a tool only to have to wait again on the correct length rods.
