Default Another newb question - writing on my crank???

So, this has been bugging me for a couple days now. Tore the oil pan off my motor from this '04 Buick Rainier, 77k miles according to the 'yard (they pulled it from the vehicle while I was there), and I see this:

Is that stock? There are markings on all 8 rods too. It makes me feel like my motor's been opened. Plus the fact, one side had NGK plugs while the other had AC Delco's. Same side that had NGK's also had what appeared to be a shiny new fuel rail, while the other side was dirty, slightly rusty on the endcap, and corroded bolts holding it down. There is a green line drawn on my map sensor, and one of the hold down tabs is broken. Any idea's??

Dirty/rusty fuelrail and bolts:

Clean, shiny fuelrail and bolts (hard to tell, but this one was taken before I cleaned the engine):

And MAP sensor:

Nobody? Please guys, it's important, I've never been inside one of these before. I just need to know if that writing is from the factory or not, or if somebody's been inside my engine before.

Can you tell us exactly what is written on the crank? Is it denoting the journal sizes?

What markings are you seeing on the rod?

Don't know whats written on the crank, it's covered with plastic at the moment. But is it normal to have writing on the crank from the factory? I've never seen that before from any manufacturer. And the blue lines you can clearly see in the first pic on the rod cap.

looks stock to me but you never know if it was opened or rebuilt really. If they were aftermarket, you would clearly see the manufactures name somewhere or at least a stamp of some kind representing that brand. Rod and rod bolts look OEM as well. A crank is not something that usually goes bad or breaks easily on these engines so I wouldnt worry if everything looks ok.

Sometimes you never know; same with buying a car. It could be stock as a rock but the previous owner could have raced and beat the **** outta it and swapped all the parts back and cleaned her up.

What do the pistons look like?

Underside of the pistons look shiney?? Still, I can't figure out why the writing on the crank. Can that happen from the factory?

Who knows what can show up from the factory. I've never seen that, but it doesn't mean anything either. Find out what it says. That will tell you a lot. My guess is it's going to tell you what the journals are ground to...but that's just a guess.

I have worked on a lot of engines and have see different writing on factory parts like your crank.....maybe factory one has 500 extra cranks from a production run, so they mark them and send them to factory two that is running low on that part?

I can't make anything out on it. So, this motor's probably been rebuilt then? If thats the case, are there any numbers I can use off the block or trans that will get me any kind of dealer or warranty service info? Maybe I can get lucky and it was rebuilt at a dealership under warranty, and I can find record of it? Guess I need to try calling the junkyard and see if I can get the VIN from the truck it came from :/

So it is possible this was written on from the factory? That just seems so weird, idk. I've torn apart quite a few euro and jdm engines and enver seen that.
