Outer main bolt hole stripped (thrust bearing) Just purchased a used Fbody ls1 and found all kinds of nastyness inside. Was suppose to be a 75k original mile motor. Open it up to find .020 under rods and mains. Crank is damaged and will need turned again. I'm sure I'll end up going with a used crank and rods over machining mine.
Anyay is a helicoil the only option here? I don't like the idea of it, but returning this whole motor isn't an option as the seller has stopped responding to my phone calls.

First things first...I'd find Bubba and have him go visit the seller of that engine...
They make kits from GM to repair these bolt holes. Don't be the least bit worried about them. They will do a fine job for you if installed correctly. In fact, many high end blocks and heads come with Helicoils in them brand new.
