On upgrading heads in general, we recommend in all cases that you sell what you have and start with a blank canvas. It isn't that all modified heads cannot be improved, but starting over is often a better value in the long term. From wear issues, to the fact that there are various styles of port that require different modifications to be improved, you'll typically get a much better return buying X upgrade outright and selling your current setup to recoup a proportion of the cost.

Our full CNC work and labor, the most popular option for the GM castings, is $995. We have common options from $495 to $1195 for the 241/243/799/706/821/823/etc. GM castings. The typical gain for our port work is 30-50hp over whatever the head managed as-cast from GM. With 243's it is generally 4Xrwhp on the ubiquitous Dynojet. If you want to spend $1400, we can certainly go farther.

That is an option (for as cast or ported heads) that most don't know we offer. Our Performance Rebuild package is cleaning/inspection, CNC'd performance oriented valve jobs, precision valve grinding, milling to any volume or valve location, and reassembly for your application. The labor cost is $495.

Good luck with your project!

Thanks very much for the kind words, guys!

Thanks for posting this info Phil, I think it clears up a lot of things for many people on here. I would also like to add though that when sending out a pair of heads to be ported as oppose to buying them outright already done, you have to factor in valve springs, retainers, seals if running anything bigger than stock cam which most people do when porting a set of heads. You also will need bigger valves then to fit the heads as well or at least a new set of stockers if the originals have a lot of miles or use. And then there is shipping as well, which for a set of heads, is going to cost a few shinny pennies. Just dont want people to think that $1000 is going to get them a set of amazingly ported heads ready to bolt on and go.
Thanks for helping out the lsx community tho AI, like others stated, all I hear is good things from your work.

idk, i know that he flowed them, and his flowbench is the same as TSP's...tsp's website says "no exhaust pipe. just seems odd that he hit the exact numbers on exhaust as tsp did, but way lower on the intake...idk, he's going to fix them up tho!

they advertise 313cfm@.600. he got 278cfm@.600...crappy considering stock is 260cfm (or so...)

he also said they were ported to large in one area and its really killing velocity. idk, im not trying to bash here, and im no head expert either.

really wish i could've seen more real world results on AI vs. TSP heads. really glad AI put some info in this thread.
